Converting subtitles using Subtitle Converter

There are two types of conversion present in Subtitle Converter: standard (batch) conversion and watch folder conversion. Read more about each conversion below.

Standard (batch) conversion

This tutorial will show you how to convert one or many files at a time from one subtitle type to another.

1. Make sure that the Batch tab is selected on the top of the window. You have three basic options for adding files that you wish to be converted.

  • By pressing the button you can add one or multiple subtitle files from a chosen folder to the batch list.
  • By pressing the button you can add all the subtitle files from a selected folder to the batch list.
  • By pressing the button you can add all the subtitles from a selected folder and its subfolders into the batch list.

If you have added some files by mistake you can remove them by selecting them and clicking the button. Or you can start over by pressing the button.

2. You will need to set the folder which will contain newly generated file/files. You can do that by clicking on the button under Destination Folder.

3. You can set the output frames per second by using the dropdown menu as shown on the screenshot.

4. You can choose the output subtitle format type by selecting one from the dropdown menu under Destination Subtitle Format.

5. Start the conversion process by pressing the button. After the conversion has started you will have the option to cancel it by clicking on the button.


Conversion using Watch Folder

This tutorial will show you how to convert all the subtitles from certain folders to another subtitle types on the fly (every file added to one of the chosen folders will be instantly converted) using the Watch Folder function.

1. Make sure that the Watch Folder tab is selected on the top of the window. Then you need to add a directory to the Watch Folder list. Do so by following the next few steps:

  • Choose the folder which contains the subtitle files that you want to convert by pressing the button next to Watch Folder in the upper right side of the form.
  • Choose the folder which will contain the newly generated subtitle files by clicking on the button next to Destination folder in the upper right side of the form.
  • Choose the output frames per second for the subtitle files from the dropdown menu.

  • Choose the output subtitle format type from the dropdown menu under Destination Subtitle Format.

  • You can optionally add comments for each watch folder by entering the desired text in the edit box under Comment.
  • After the settings for the folder have been done you can add it to the Watch Folder list by pressing the button.
  • To remove a folder from the list by selecting it and clicking on the button. Or you can erase the whole list by pressing the button.
  • You can update the watch folder settings by selecting the folder in the list, then changing the desired settings and finally pressing the button to apply the changes. Then a dialog will pop-up asking you if you want to update the settings.

  • To clear all the watch folder settings on the right side of the form click on the button.

2. After you have finished with the list, you can start the watch folder conversion by pressing the button. When the conversion is armed - all the subtitle files found in one of the watch folders and the ones added to it at a later time will automatically be converted using the settings corresponding to the folder in which they reside.

3. After you have finished with the conversion or you want to change some of the settings, you will need to press the button to stop the watch folder conversion process.
